Introducing Rebecca Tolhurst
Dr Rebecca Tolhurst (TCM)

Rebecca studied at Victoria University of Technology, where she completed a four year degree in pure and applied Chinese Herbal Medicine – the last of its kind in Australia. She also completed an acupuncture qualification, graduating with two Bachelor degrees in 2006. She is currently undertaking a Master of Public Health by research, to be completed in 2018.
Rebecca believes that empowerment is of primary importance in health care. To achieve this aim, she learns about and works together with patients, to achieve their optimum health state – mind, body and spirit. She provides sustainable, practical, applicable and down-to-earth treatments and advice that align with individual circumstances, to create highly personalised health care for patients. With over 12 years’ experience, she has treated thousands of clients with diverse backgrounds and health issues. Rebecca has interests in herbal medicine and bodywork from all cultural backgrounds and believes that when it comes to health, you never stop learning. She incorporates traditional Eastern philosophies with modern, up to date health information and believes that communication is the key to empowering patients to make informed decisions and regain autonomy surrounding their own health. Rebecca is particularly passionate about food, and believes that all medicine does not have to taste awful.
Areas of interest
Womens’ and men’s health, natural and assisted fertility (including IVF and IUI), acute and chronic pain, paediatrics, metabolic disorders, musculoskeletal complaints, fatigue, mental, emotional and spiritual problems. Rebecca has volunteered her services at community acupuncture facilities and drug and alcohol residential detox facilities. She has experience in assisting with post detox support and recovery, and a strong interest in health equity.
Other relevant experience
Prior to Chinese Medicine, Rebecca worked in the Hospitality industry for almost 20 years, where she learned a great deal about food preparation and commercial cooking. From there she developed the ability to understand people from all walks of life, and is a strong communicator. She also has over 25 years’ experience with meditation, exploring the realms of alternative spirituality and metaphysics. Rebecca is a keen gardener and has a personal interest in growing food and herbs. She is a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS) and is registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) under the Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine divisions.
